Several people in your area are interested in attending an ASCA self-help support group. You already have more than enough people to start a group! The next step is to connect with each other!

The purpose of this discussion forum is to connect adult survivors of child abuse that live in and around the Seattle, Washington area so that they may organize and create an ASCA self-help support group.

An e-mail was sent to subscribers of the ASCA newsletter that live in the area directing them to this forum. If you live in this area and are interested in starting or attending an ASCA support group meeting, please post your support and ideas for organizing.

To communicate privately amongst each other, make sure to enable the e-mail option when you register so that you may send e-mails to each other privately. You will also need to make at least one post so that people can contact you.

I encourage you to post on the forum itself, rather than only privately e-mailing each other, otherwise, it's like being in a town hall, where instead of people talking to the whole group, they're just talking to one person sitting next to them, and the whole group really doesn't know what's being discussed, therefore others will not have a chance to contribute to the conversation and collaborate.

You will need to register before you can post to the forum.

I've only just started my process that I've been sexually abused by multiple men, though I'm clear it's happened. I'm in counseling, and am still in the early phases of getting Safe and so I'm not ready to meet anyone or able to help get the group going *yet*, but wanted to post that I think having an ASCA group in Seattle would be extremely beneficial. I've listened to the sample meeting and it's similar format to CODA (Codependents Anonymous) which I've found very helpful in recognizing behaviors of an abusive relationship. The ASCA meeting would also be good for meeting others regularly so we don't have to feel like we're in this alone. The CODA meeting is at Swedish hospital on Broadway, and I don't believe they charge for the CODA group to meet there so it seems very doable to me to get a group going since all the materials are prepared and they are willing to help.

I worked with a therapist for 9 years recovering from my childhood sexual abuse and now live a pretty wonderful life with only a few minor issues I'm working on. When I started my work I had hope of feeling better some day, but never dreamed I would feel as good as I do. I'm very interested in meetings with other survivors who are in various phases of recovery. We survivors really need to know there are others out there who understand what we've been through and are going through.

I live in Skagit County and would be interested in joining or starting a group. Is anyone else up in this area interested as well?
